Here you will find a list of answers to the questions most frequently asked by our customers.
1
How must nitrogen gas springs be used?

Nitrogen gas springs are high-pressure vessels. It’s important to carefully read the use instructions on Bordignon’s catalogue before use.

2
Must I fasten nitrogen gas springs?

Yes, the correct fastening – as described in the guidelines included in Bordignon’s catalogue – guarantees the durability and efficiency of nitrogen gas springs.

3
What’s the minimum loading pressure for nitrogen gas springs?
Generally, the minimum loading pressure is 30 bar. If lower loading pressures are required, please contact Bordignon’s technical support.
4
Qual è la pressione massima di caricamento dei cilindri all’azoto?
Per ogni cilindro all’azoto la pressione massima di caricamento è scritta sul catalogo Bordignon e marcata laser sul corpo del cilindro.
5
Are you compliant with the certifications for nitrogen gas spings?
Yes, you can download the certifications from the Download area of our website.
6

7
Are there more performing nitrogen gas springs than the TOP series?
At the moment of their launch at the beginning of the 90s, TOP series nitrogen gas springs were those with the most elevated forces.
Recently, thanks to the development of more and more advanced technologies, it has been possible to obtain the same forces with nitrogen gas springs included in different series that, related to the TOP ones, guarantee more elevated performances, life cycles and reliability.
CSX series, starting from a body diameter of 38 mm, has equal or higher force than TOP series. For a body diameter of 32 mm, we suggest 2XCSX32 models (included in CSX series, as a “powered-up version” of CSX32 models) and, for a body diameter of 25 mm, we suggest the MSML25 models.
Differently from TOP gas springs, CSX, 2XCSX and MSML nitrogen gas springs are developed with the best Bordignon’s technology, provided with wiper against contaminants and they are self-lubricated.
8
Must nitrogen gas springs be pre-compressed as the traditional wire springs?
No, nitrogen gas springs develop an initial force (“at contact” force) without the necessity of pre-compression. For some nitrogen gas springs sold in the market (but not by Bordignon), pre-compression could be suggested according to a different construction design, with a different level of safety.
9
How much stroke “reserve” must be left using nitrogen gas springs?
Thanks to their reliable construction and advanced technology, the nominal stroke of Bordignon’s nitrogen gas springs is usable at 100%. Moreover, a safety extra-stroke is present (from 1 mm to 3 mm according to models). For some nitrogen gas springs sold in the market (but not by Bordignon), a “reserve” stroke could be suggested according to a different construction design, with a different level of safety.
10
What’s the increase in force obtained compressing the spring at stroke limit (or at an intermediate stroke)?
The final forces (full-compression force, force at stroke limit) are indicated in our catalogue and are reference values measured in static conditions.
The real final force developed during use may vary, since depending on the specific parameters of the application, as for example the working speed (cycles-per-minute). The same is true, consequently, for the “intermediate” forces. The variation of the force developed according to the used stroke is not actually linear, even if the linear variation constitutes – in static conditions – a very good approximation.
The deviation from the actual trend is, for practical purposes, irrelevant. It’s not useful to indicate a hypothetical exact curve of the force trend vs. used stroke, since that can vary according to the different parameters of usage (in case of assuming both static conditions and eventual “reasonable” polytropic coefficients, but in any case, unique and then totally indicative). The linear approximation, at most, eases the calculations of the designer.
11
Is it possible to accommodate the nitrogen gas springs in appropriate sites/holes delved in the plate of the mould?
Yes, but it is always necessary the fastening at the base with screws, also inside a hole. Please check the instructions in our catalogue for further details (diameters of the holes etc.).
12
Is it possible to request a nitrogen gas spring by Bordignon to replace a model of another producer, currently in use?
Yes, you can get in touch with our Sales Office, and we will suggest you our best solution. To evaluate the possible interchangeability, please inform us about the fastening modalities (and more eventual relevant parameters) currently in use. Anyway, we highlight that mould producers and users can take full advantage from Bordignon’s high quality nitrogen gas springs when they are chosen for a new project.
13
How die springs must be used?
It’s important to read carefully the instructions included in Bordignon’s catalogue before using them.
14
Can all of your die springs be classified according to ISO standards?
No. Bordignon’s catalogue of die springs includes six series of springs. Four series are developed according to ISO standards: the BG (green: light load), the BA (blue: medium load), the BR (red: heavy load) and the BY (yellow: extra heavy load). There are then two series with ISO diameters and lenghts, but with different features: the BS (black: extra light load) and the BO (orange: super heavy load, fit for particularly heavy loads).
15
How is it preferable to choose a spring?
As long as allowed by the working needs, we suggest to choose the longest springs and those fit for the lightest loads.
16
How choose the fittest DTAP model among those available?
For an optimal use of DTAP technology, please provide the information about type of tap (cold forming or cutting), size of the thread, material code and material strength (N/ mm²). Bordignon will be able to evaluate the best product starting from your needs.
17
What’s “Direct Drive” system?
Thanks to the direct transmission to the spindle, “Direct Drive” system guarantees increased power, reduced size, efficient reversal of direction and minimum maintenance. The absence of lead screw allows to change quickly the pitch, replacing the tap holder of the machine and setting up the data corresponding to the new application from the panel.
18
How choose the fittest BRE air scrap remover from those available?
We suggest choosing the model with the size closest that of the scrap shooter you are going to use.
19
Which is the maximum charging pressure of nitrogen gas springs?

For each nitrogen gas spring, the maximum charging pressure is indicated in Bordignon’s catalogue and laser-engraved on the body of the nitrogen gas spring.

20
Which is the most powerful nitrogen gas spring?

See CSX model.

21
Which is the shortest and most powerful nitrogen gas spring?

See SMLX model.

22
Why is it preferable to equip the BRE air scrap remover with the related BRE-CD sensor?
The air scrap remover (BRE) is an essential part of the moulding systems but can have some risks: in case it’s blocked and stops working, scraps accumulate and can cause damage to the tools. BRE-CD is a sensor capable of detecting the stop of the scrap remover during the production process and of signalling the anomaly by means of a connected alarm system.
